Dallas Plantar Wart Removal

Warts are caused by viral infections and can develop anywhere on the foot, but typically appear on the bottom of the foot, also known as the plantar side. Plantar Warts are small growths on the bottom of the foot which commonly occur in children, adolescents, and elderly patients. Caused by direct contact with the human papilloma virus (HPV), plantar warts grow deep into the skin, starting out small and becoming larger over time.

There are two types of warts that can be found on the plantar side of your foot: solitary warts and mosaic warts. Solitary warts are single and often grow in size. They can eventually multiply and form additional satellite warts. A cluster of several small warts growing close together are referred to as mosaic warts, which are more difficult to treat than solitary ones. The podiatrists at North Texas Foot & Ankle have been providing quality foot and ankle care to Dallas patients of all ages for over 10 years. Our podiatry experts can recommend the best wart treatment or wart removal for each patient.

Plantar Wart Symptoms

Plantar warts can resemble a callus because they are made of tough, thick tissue. One of the differences between calluses and warts are that warts may cause pain during walking or standing. Squeezing the side of warts can also be painful. If you look closely at the wart, you will often see tiny black dots on the surface, which are actually dried blood in the tiny blood vessels in the foot.

Dallas Plantar Wart Treatment

Although plantar warts can clear up on their own, they often become larger, spread, and/or become more painful with time. The goal of wart treatment is to completely remove the wart. Home remedies for wart removal are unproven and can also be dangerous. Options for wart removal include topical or oral treatments, laser therapy, cryotherapy (freezing), or surgical excision to remove the wart. The podiatrists at North Texas Foot & Ankle in Dallas can determine the best wart removal solution for your case.
